Update Failed (with status code)

Hi,

I've been trying to do the latest mandatory Xbox update but the download keeps failing half way through.

I get the message:

"Can't download the update.  To test your connection, open System Settings and select Network Settings, test Xbox LIVE Connection."

Status Code:  3524 - 0000 - 3080 - 0506 - D000 - 0185

I have tested the connection and everything seems ok and it just loops me straight back to the update required screen.  I have also cleared the cache on my hard drive and tried again but it still won't work!

Has anyone else had this problem and resolved it?

Any ideas much appreciated!!

That error means that a storage device could not be found. Are you sure that you have enough storage space available on your HDD? Also do you have more than one storage device attached to the console?

That's the exact same error I get, but since I intended to transfer my profile to a new hard drive without the update, I had a USB too. Apparently, it matters if you have another device plugged in.

I had no other devices plugged in and over 90GB free on my hard drive so no idea why it wouldn't update.  But problem resolved now - I backed up then reformatted the hard drive and it all now seems to work ok.  How long for is anyone's guess....

Thanks all!

I got this same message after my XBox randomly gave me a message saying that some things may be missing or corrupt and then my XBox couldn't find my XBL account and when I checked the memory on the hard drive it said it was unformatted and I couldn't do anything to get my stuff back, this has made me very unhappy because I have lost just about everything from my XBox and, even after contacting XBox support and apparently fixing it, it has broken again and it says that the hard drive is unformatted.

Hey Bryan - can you create a new thread about your issue? If you are having corrupt data on your hard drive, you may want to post here instead: forums.xbox.com/.../7.aspx
