Update error: 3F4A-0000-3080-0506-D000-0185

2007 Xbox Elite tried updating, the status code 3F4A-0000-3080-0506-D000-0185 appeared with every update attempt. listed,

The support code finder does not have it listed. I have removed and replaced the external hard-drive, but to no avail.

Also it scratches any discs that are inside when set upright.

What does this mean?

That error means it is failing to update.

Try first clear system cache, restart console

(System Settings > Memory > Hightlight Hard Drive, (Y) > Clear System Cache)

If that doesn't work, backup all your game saves and format the hard drive, and that will fix the problem.

My update finally worked after I unplugged everything connected to the console then removed and replaced the internal hard drive.  Wish you the same luck.

Use this "UPDATE VIA USB" instructions to manually update the console, make sure you have unpluged all peripherals except for the controller.

Hey folks! Alright, so this error code means that a storage device was not found during the software update. Follow these steps to troubleshoot this issue..

  1. Turn off your console.
  2. Remove all console storage devices, including any USB flash drives, external hard drives or the internal hard drive on the Xbox 360 S console. Learn how to remove the hard drive.
  3. Add your primary storage device, for example, the hard drive.
  4. Turn on the console
  5. Try updating the console again.

Let us know if that works for you. Cheers!

The problem is that the hard drive is just not working anymore. Mister Ohnaka you are right, but i would suggest replacing your hard drive instead as i've done the same. I sent mine of to repair center for replacement and they gave me a new one. I would suggest you transfer all your saved data to a USB because when i told them to do it for me they agreed to do so, BUT NO, i lost all my data.
