Two annoying problems.

1) Every time I dashboard to change a game I disconnect from Xbox live. Why is causing this?

2) I cannot send messages to people. Every time I want to message someone I get "cannot send this message" and regardless of how many times I click the "send" button I get the same message.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised by the lack of help.

G'day Metaphorically, let's get those disconnections to stop! Please try the following steps in order:

 1. Delete your profile, OR move it to a compatible USB drive.
 2. Clear the console's cache 3 times. Restart the console.
 3. Download your profile from Xbox Live.
 4. Launch a game, play for a few minutes, and then head back to the dashboard.

These steps might also fix your messaging issue. If not, try sending a message from your profile here on xbox.com. Let us know the results! If this isn't successful, then we'll dig a little deeper.

I did that, didn't work. Doubt the cache was the issue.

Hey there Metaphorically!

Can you try delete a portion of the current software update installed on your console, to force the console to automatically update it's system once again.

Follow the steps up front and let us know how that goes and we'll go from there.

Clear Xbox system cache

 1. Press the Guide button on your controller, go to Settings, and select System Settings.
 2. Select Storage or Memory.
 3. Highlight any storage device, and then press Y on your controller.
 4. Select Clear System Cache.
 5. Repeat this process three times in row.

Restore network settings

Go to Xbox Network Settings and select Configure Network. Select the Additional settingstab and Restore network settings to factory defaults. Press "B" on your controller and selectTest Xbox LIVE Connection. If you use wireless connectivity with your console, reconfigure wireless settings for your console.

Delete system update

Go to system settings. Select Storage.

On your controller, press the following button sequence:

    Press the left bumper.
    Press the right bumper.
    Press the X button.
    Press the left bumper.
    Press the right bumper.
    Press the X button.

Restart your console and have the system update itself.

Post back and let us know how that goes.

Are you able to send messages through xbox.com without any issues?

Try restore your console's network settings to factory defaults, to issue new IP configuration from your router.

Go to Xbox Network settings and select Configure Network. Select the Additional settings tab and Restore network settings to factory defaults. Afterward, restart your console and run the diagnostic test to LIVE (Test Xbox LIVE Connection).

Do you have a USB flash drive, to use as an alternate storage device, instead of the hard drive (if this is your configuration). You could try this method, with your hard drive safely removed and the USB drive plugged in, as the alternate storage device, to see if the problem persists even with the hard drive not operating.

Keep us posted!

I have a similar problem, every time I go to a different application/game or go back to the dashboard I get signed out. It's not the internet or wifi because I switch locations and tried their wifi and even switched to the Ethernet cable. But I always get signed out.

Taidara, I can send messages through Xbox.com fine. However, I don't want to get on my computer to send messages to players in the game.

Does my message sending have to do with feedback? As I said, I'm avoid a tad bit.

I did the factory default, and it didn't work. If anything, it turned my network to moderate than open. Also, my Xbox HDD is new and so in the xbox. I don't need to use a flash drive, also I don't have the latter.
Taidara, I can send messages through Xbox.com fine. However, I don't want to get on my computer to send messages to players in the game.
Understandable!

Try send me a message from your console and see if it works.
Does my message sending have to do with feedback? As I said, I'm avoid a tad bit.
In which context of feedback do you refer to?
I did the factory default, and it didn't work. If anything, it turned my network to moderate than open.
Do you mean the diagnostic test (Test Xbox LIVE Connection) shows your NAT as drifting, instead of constant?

Please, post up the make and model of your router and your modem as well (if this is not a single device).
Also, my Xbox HDD is new and so in the xbox.
Is this a non-Microsoft (counterfeit) hard drive, or Microsoft authorized? Did you purchased your console as brand new?
