TV Flashes Every Half Second (unwatchable)

TV is flashing on/off every half second, consistently. This is not a typical dropped few frames or stuttering.

Xfinity Cable box and service (Motorola)

Sony 42" HDTV

Connected directly from HDMI out on the Xfinity box to the HDMI in on the Xbox.

Only the input TV stream is flashing. It flashes even when the TV app is constrained. No flashing in OnGuide or any menus, etc

No other app is having this problem.

Box has been fully reset (unplugged and rebooted).

Hi, I just happened to assist someone using the Xfiinity cable box with exactly the same issue, turned out that the cable box uses Macrovision copy protection on the output which was causing the flashing. You may want to give your provider a call and ask about this.

Thanks, and that is exactly what it looks like. It's been so long since dealing with Macrovision I had forgotten about it.

Seems like this would be something MS and XFinity may need to work out for Xbox to read it. And, I am assuming that it's unlikely for XFinity to have a way to turn it off.

It could be something that is fixable with a software update to the Xbox One possibly, I'm not sure about xfinity having the ability to disable the copy protection.  I had to leave the person I was helping with a suggestion to contact them about this.

I used Comcast online help chat last night to see if they could help (chat being WAY easier to get through, especially at 1 in the morning). They were not, but they seemed appreciative that I reported the issue. With Xbox One being new, and XFinity/Comcast being a large server this will be an issue for them, and well as MS.

They gave me a phone number to call that's more direct to the right folks for this kind of thing. I'm calling them this morning. They also gave me links their xbox help, which in turn points back to the MS xbox forums/support.

I'll post back whatever I find out.

No solution at all.  The number I was given to call was not the correct number for this support need, and they wondered where I got the number. I was forwarded to the main xfinity number (menus from hell) where someone forwarded me again, THEN I was forwarded again to some that said I need to talk to a specialty technician, they forwarded to a loop that would not accept my zip code nor phone number as valid entries. After looping the menu system many times (failing all key entry as invalid responses) I got a person that could not pull up my account, and had never heard of Bellevue, WA. They in turn forwarded me back to the main xfinty support number. A complete circle. Not done yet. The person there informed me that I had reached the wrong department. He forwarded me. While on hold I was cut off.

Resolution: Xfinity is useless. Microsoft is on its own to fix this issue.

Problem: Macrovision out of the cable box makes the TV feature useless.

That's some amazing customer service by them..not. I will certainly keep an eye out for any updates regarding this issue and if any come up I will message you just as soon as I know, I will also post anything here of course.

I had this problem. I found on another forum that the HDMI cable wasn't pushed into the Xbox the whole way. Try pushing it in firmly while holding onto the front of the box. It worked for me!

It's definitely Macrovision Copy Protection in my case.

I tied my other cable box and all is good.

Bad: Xfinity Motorola RNG150N

Good: Comcast Pace RNG110

The models are as displayed on the front and how Xbox One picks them up automatically.
