Transfer Cable issues

My old xbox died, I got the new xbox. Today I got the Microsoft Transfer Cable. I did not get a pop up with I connected my old HDD to my slim. I looked at the memory to see what it was reading it as and it was under a USB. So I don't know whats going on. I don't have an option to read the USB either.

Hvae you got the latest dashboard update? As that has the software built-in so you don't need the disc?

Also make sure you have the official transfer cable as the cheap ones whill break the hard drive and make it appear as a USB flash drive (16GB), no matter how big it actually is.

So apparently this was not an official data migration cable! :( I thought it was. Thanks for your help. I'm off to buy the official one, and I really hope this works.

Hi there,

Sorry to jump in and ask a question on your old thread. I am having the same problem as you describe. Reading this I think my cheap transfer cable is not an official one, even though it says Microsoft on it...

Before I buy an official one, please could you let me know if this solved the problem?

Thank you
