The Next Generation Consoles only need more RAM.

I think Microsoft and Sony should save their money and everybody elses money, by releasing non-mandatory, upgraded 360's / PS3's with more RAM, to enable higher resolutions and better Anti-aliasing, filtering, draw distance etc. Instead of re-introducing Xbox 720's, or PS4's.  The cost would be minimal and quite frankly, the CPU's and GPU's in these consoles are just fine for even the next 5+ years.  Sony has figured out a way to bypass their Anti-aliasing + HDR combination issue (as found in Heavenly Sword, Killzone and basically every first party game, not to mention, 3rd party developers are starting to utilize these methods too), the 360 can pull off a low level of Tessellation, and the Processors in these systems are more than competent. At the most, overclock the CPU / GPU's for the upgraded consoles. Upping the RAM would make developers happy, the systems would be arms reach of the new Wii-U, and everything would be priced competitively with the Wii U, instead of having to shell out $600.00+ (You know the new PS4 would probably cost close to a grand again).  This way, everything stays based off of current Tech but with more RAM.  If they felt they really needed to, they could always bump the graphics chips up to current generation but something already used in PC's (to save cost in R&D, therefore making it more affordable to us).

Also...we're probably heading into another recession again but these consoles are in bad need of memory upgrades, it would be a cheapo solution.

New memory requires new memory controllers which are integrated into the main CPU and GPU so what they really need is new consoles. Developers have squeezed every trick they can out of these systems and it shows. Gears 3, Battlefield 3, MW3, Uncharted 3, Resistance 3, Killzone 3, Crysis 2 is as good looking as console games are going to get. Luckily Intel, AMD, Nvidia, IBM have been making new chips this entire time so picking one for mass production for the next gens shouldn't result in $500-600 systems since mass production drives prices down especially when you're guaranteed production in the millions of the same thing for at least 5-6 years. MS and Sony would probably take a profit loss to get them closer to $300-400 price tags if the consoles actually cost $500-600 to build the first several million units.

The GPU's five years old, in both. "More RAM" won't enable 1080p or 4k video across the board. The CPUs are also anemic.

You can't just upgrade the RAM and call it a day.

If you really want this, I would suggest getting a PC which is dual-purpose and you can connect to the TV. That is one reason why PC gaming is still popular...it can be upgraded.

You won't see any upgrades of that magnitude (the only console to do so was the N64, but they had that in mind from the start) because game companies want everyone to play their game and not have to force them to upgrade in order to play their games...well apart from motion-based games.

[/quote]Yes..your right ...They have squeezed everything they can.So much so that BF3 is actually watered down for the consoles. The FrostBite 2 engine can do so much more but is limited by the consoles. Its time for a new console.Your right its not going to get any better because they can't get any more out of the current consoles.I can hear Beyonce saying..Let me upgrade you upgrade you...

They need a lot more then that for sure. Its time for a new console..
