The Capitalizaion of my Gamertag was changed without my consent. Can it be fixed?

I signed up back in 2009 with the gamertag "BitingChaos".

When I signed in today, it shows my name everywhere as "bitingChaos", with a lowercase "b".

How did the capitalization get changed? Why would Microsoft do that? Is it possible to have someone from support change it back? I have my emails going back to 2009 showing the capital "B" in front of it. Registered and typed as BitingChaos.

I read that I could pay $10 to have the name changed to something else, then $10 to have it changed back to the correct capitalization. Someone else said that if you change the name to something else, you can NOT go back to the original name. Is that true?

Why would Microsoft change the capitalization of my name??

You can check your billing history to see if someone had access to your account and paid for the Gamertag change. Otherwise, you'd have to call phone support to see about any refunds or free name changes.

Nothing shows up in my billing history.

When I sign into the web site, my name is lowercase. When I sign into my Xbox, it is capitalized again - but my friends see it as lowercase.

It's like something is wrong with the database entry for my account or something.

Xbox support basically told me it's not possible that names change case or display differently. All my emails say "BitingChaos". When I sign into my Xbox, it says "BitingChaos".

At the top of this page? "bitingChaos". On my friend's Xbox? "bitingChaos".

And it's not just "$10 to fix", it is at least $20 to try and fix it. Pay $10 to change it from this to something else, then pay $10 to TRY to change it back (and pray it doesn't say the name is "in use").

Maybe I'd pay if I *knew* it would work, but I'm not going to pay money just to try - especially when I've read other people say you cannot go back to an old name, and support have told me that the problem doesn't even exist.

If you have document proof that you changed your GT to "BitingChaos", then I would use that to approach phone support. Even if we wanted to, the Forums Support agents don't have the ability to change GTs for people.

What kind of "proof" would I need? I never "changed" my gamertag. It was created back in 2009 as "BitingChaos" (big B, big C). I have all kinds of emails from xbox.com/Microsoft with my name listed as "BitingChaos" going back to 2009.

After signing into Xbox Live back in May, I saw that it was somehow changed to "bitingChaos" (little b, big C).

I tried contacting support, and they said that wasn't possible (it "wasn't possible that it changed on its own", and "isn't possible for them to change it") - so basically I wouldn't be helped.

I just wanted to keep my gamertag consistent, as the mixed-case spelling is something I use with other services as well.

You probably had some stupid rep. answer the phone. Get copies of everything showing it with the caps then go back and tell them you have proof, and you will probably have to talk to someone higher up. The basic techs just read stupid books to solve your problem.
