System update failure - error code ending 045D

hi

im trying to update my xbox live system, but keep getting the 045D error message, with the download progress stopping around 5% in.

ive tried all the suggestions listed, such as:

- removing then replacing all HDs and restarting.

- clearing cache

- downloading the update onto both CD and USB

- downloading my profile onto USB and removing the HD, then trying to download the update.

- gone through all saved files looking for any error, or !!! marks next to files - there is none.

- tried connecting directly to the net via ethernet, rather than wireless.

i am using an xbox elite, with 250gb worth of storage, of which approx 130gb is availabale, so space is not an issue.

i previously had an issue where the bandwidth on my internet seemed to be slowing the xbox live sign to slow down. could this cause problems? (045D is a storage based problem though isnt it?)

any help would be great, thank you.

thanks CH.

i tried to do this using a 16gb flash USB drive, but didnt seem to work.

saying that, my profile file size was approx 15gb, so there might not have been enough space on the flash drive for the update file?

Yeah, 34F5 is storage-related, chiefly, but it could also mean something about your connection to the internet preventing the download from completing. Best thing you can do is try to move your profile over to a USB drive and remove your hard drive before turning on your Xbox. When you try to sign in, the update will be forced to be downloaded to the USB drive.

Or just try installing the update straight from the USB drive without your hard drive connected. That should get the job done.

Unfortunately that's a side-effect of installing updates this way that you can't get around without using Modio and a hard drive transfer cable. :( Barring that, try to do maintenance on your hard drive in any fashion you can, and try downloading the update directly to the hard drive when you have an opportunity to see if you can get it on the hard drive directly.

ive also just tried to update using the file on a CD, without my HD in, and it just came up with the 000F error message, which is no storage found error

THAT WORKS! cheers man.

the only problem being that it only works with the USB plugged in. (obviously because that the update is stored on there).

ive tried to move the file onto my HD, but when i search through the USB, nothing is showing up.

...Your profile is 16GB? Holy god, bro. If that's the case, try doing it on an Xbox Live Silver profile. I know it's a pain in the *** for what really should be an easy fix, but hopefully doing that just works.

EDIT: It also sounds like something's wrong with your profile if it's stating that your profile is 15GB. You may want to re-download your profile from Live once you can update.

When you're updating from a CD with no hard drive, you want to have a USB stick in, since yes, otherwise you have no storage. Try updating from the CD, with a formatted USB stick with nothing on it.
