Hi guys! Got bit of a problem here and I'm hoping someone can advise.
Today while playing Forza 3 from the hdd my machine suddenly decided to lock up. No big deal, I reset the xbox and proceeded to reboot the system. Upon signing in to XBL the machine froze again so once more, I restarted the system.
Dreading a RRoD I closed my eyes and hoped for the best, only to be greeted by the following message...
"Some data is missing or corrupt. Please install the update and restart your xbox. If problems persist, it may be your hdd."
OK, that's not exactly verbatim, but it's 90% accurate to what was displayed. BTW, the error msg displayed in the same type of window a dirty disc error displays in. Anyway, I installed the update, restarted the Xbox, and it froze again on the dashboard. Another reboot later, the same error msg displays. Installed the update again, and so on, repeating the process almost half a dozen times to no avail.
So far I have checked the following:
* checked the hdd on a different xbox and it worked fine
* used a new hdd on the freezing xbox, freeze persists
* migrated my gamertag to memory card, tried to load from that, freeze persists.
The problem seems to be specific to my main Xbox and if I were to guess, the problem is in the bios somewhere. Perhaps it became corrupt? And if so, how on earth does that happen?
Seriously hoping someone here has experienced all this and if so, has some advise. Sorry for the long message, but before I call Xbox customer support, I'd at least like to have some understanding as to what happened.
