Sound set ups

So I usually have alot to contribute when it comes to technical conversations, however I no knowledgebase when it comes to configuring sound systems. I bought a sonos sound bar yesterday and I hooked it up. Itcurrently starts with a hdmi cord from the xbone plugged into the tv and the sound comes out the optical / toslink of the tv which is hooked directly to the sound bar, tv speakers have since been disabled. Now heres the question, are there alternate sound configurations I should be using besides uncompressed stereo ? the sound bar is the only audio source currently till I add on to it. I have no clue about the limitations DTS or dolby digital. Also I noticed on the 360 it has a sound mode called dolby digital with WMA which i also have no clue about
