Sign in/ Start up/ Freezing problem

Since recently, my Xbox 360 S often greets me with this screen when I it boot it up:

After I signed in, it will continue to this screen and just do nothing except spin the little circle loading thinggy:

The only way to get it to work then is to power it off and back on again. The Xbox will boot up just fine then.

I tried some of the troubleshooting guides, but they don't cover this problem, like the "Xbox Screen Freeze Solution" or the good old "How to clear your Xbox 360 system cache".

Has anyone else encountered this or knows what might cause this. Thanks in advance for all helpful answers!

Here lately mine has been taking what seems like a bit longer than usual.

Have you tried to change to auto-sign in to avoid seeing that first screen shot?

Thanks for the suggestion!

The Profile Auto Sign-In is already set to On, so I'm afraid that's not it.

Yes, I still get the first screen. I had it already set up this way (or it's the default setting).

The same happened with one of my daughter's consoles. I set it to auto sign-in but it kept giving me the option of choosing profile, create or download page. And it too did the epic slow down. But then I figured what it was when the console threw the error E68. What kind of HDD do you have?

Interesting information. Thanks!

It's the HDD that came with the Slim.

Well I would assume there is a fault in the HDD. Clearing the cache would have been my first suggestion which you have done. I would say the next thing you could try is go through individual files and check for corruption, deleting any corrup files, profiles, etc and replacing those files such as games, demos, paid downloads by re-downloading them from download history under account management. Gamesaves are not recoverable obviously.

Question: If you unplug your internet access such as modem/router/unplug ethernet, does the issue come up when booting the console? I ask because perhaps its just something as simple as a rouge accound setting (first screen shot cause) combined with a slowing connection when signing into XBL. Perhaps a bandwidth hog has moved into your neighborhood?

Thanks for contributing to the thread. I really appreciate it!

It seem the problem has gone away. After my last reply yesterday, I made a "factory reset" and since then the problem hasn't occurred.

I hope it doesn't come back.
