setting a static ip?

high,

was trying to set up a static ip and forward ports for xbox live but ran into probs. i have a zyxel P-660HW-T1 v3 modem. i followed a few diff guides and used the ipv4 address as staic address and it went wrong from there i think? does anyone know where there is a dummies guide to doing this? i get lost when it comes to setting up both the modem and the xbox. using the ipv4 addres causes a conflict and i end up having to reset my modem. am doing it to try to sort out issues with lag and no games found. it takes up to 15 minutes and longer to find a multiplayer game on mw3. the last update i installed seems to have caused a lot of problems.not just for me. have spoken to others with the same issues since the update. contacted activision and they insist the problem is mine not theres and tell me to forward ports. (its there solution to every problem). as i said, prior to update. it took just seconds to find a game. after the update, endless waiting. any help anyone can offer would be gratefully appreciated. my xbox is hard wired to the modem

phew. this is the most ive ever typed in my life.

thanks again

Hey there Costly!
I'll give you some useful links how to set up Port Forwarding on your Zyxel router.

Make sure you disable UPnP in your router settings under Advanced UPnP

Post back and let us know how it goes.

Hi Costly, try this:

Enable UpnP.  Disable all port forwarding.

If you can, assign a reserved ip address in the router based on the MAC address of the XBox.  Try something in the middle of the range, xxx:xxx:xxx:150

Apply  UpnP and refresh it to clear all the previous readings.

Set the XBox to automatic IP adress and DNS.

Reboot modem and then the Xbox.  See if it gets you going.

Cheers SteveH.

Hi Costly, try this:

Enable UpnP.  Disable all port forwarding.

If you can, assign a reserved ip address in the router based on the MAC address of the XBox.  Try something in the middle of the range, xxx:xxx:xxx:150 and set the PAT rules to the normal XBox ports, 53, 80, 88, 3074.  (May not need these)

Apply  UpnP and refresh it to clear all the previous readings.

Set the XBox to automatic IP address and DNS.

Reboot modem and then the Xbox.  See if it gets you going.

Oops! sorry about the double up, had a glitch uploading.

To reserve an IP address go to Click NETWORK>LAN>CLIENT LIST.  The Xbox will probably be called "unknown".

connecting to live is ok. its finding games is the prob. have been checking out a lot of forums and stuff and cant find a solution. even at peek times it can still take at least 5mins to join a lobby. and its always at 75 or 100ms/ping and i think thats why i have so many issues with lag. the search is limited to 50 games at each ping for some reason. when i do get a game at 50ms/ping i have no lag problems. as for problems connecting to live. this is only when i try to change settings to forward ports. as it stands, my nat is open and have followed the guide from taidara but port test says my ports are still closed. am now trying to find out how to increase the number of games mw3 searches at each ping. i think that will solve my problem.

thanks
