Screen Freezes when connecting to Xbox Live

I've been having this problem where I can connect to xbox live perfectly and play online, but when I put the disk game ( which is GOW2) my screen freezes completely, I've tried putting the game and then signing in but as soon as I am the screen freezes and the xbox console stops reading the disk. I know theres nothing wrong with the game disk because I share my xbox with a friend and he doesn't have a problem signing in with this game and just plays. He  told me to erase the cache/memory of this game, and I did, but nothing happens, I still am having the freezing screen. Any helpful tips? or should I just replace the game?

If it's just Gears of War 2, follow the steps in this topic: forums.epicgames.com/showthread.php

The fix can be pretty tricky, but it should work.

Are you saying after you put GOW2 in, you try to connect to LIVE (sign in), or you start the game and then try to connect for multiplayer? Does this only happen with GOW2, or all your games?
