Recovering Gamertag.

Hello,

My friends console recently broke (the disk tray would not open) so he said he was just going to buy a new one (his answer to everything) but i told him to wait and went around to his house and fixed it for him. However there was another problem I had not noticed; a broken laser. Since i was not online to discuss the problem he took the console to a repair shop where they charged him £40 to fix the problem, I could have done it for free.... Anyway when he took the xbox to the store he gave it to them, leaving the hard drive on the xbox. (Nicely done Joe!) Anyway, when they returned the xbox it was fixed and working correctly howeer upon attempting to log on his account had been deleted from the hard drive. Upon attempting to recover his gamertag it begun to recover and then gave an error along the lines of "Cannot recover gamertag at this time, please try again later" Could the people at the shop have changed the email address to the account?

Regards,

Corey-Dean

No, there could just have been an issue with the system when trying to recover his gamertag to that console. If he continues to not be able to recover his gamertag to that console, I would recommend that he logs on to his account here on Xbox.com to try and see if anything has changed. Also I would recommend changing his password for the windows live id that is associated with his gamertag.

Okay, then please do the following:

On your console, go all the way to the right to the settings hub. There go to the System tile in the upper left corner.

Now go to the Network settings and do a connection test to Xbox Live, just to make sure your console can properly connect to Live.

If the test passed, please go to the Storage options in the System settings.

There highlight your main storage device, and press Y.

In the upcoming menu choose to clear the system cache, to make sure the profile download doesn't fail because of a corrupted cache.

Now go to the storage device that your Profile is stored on, go to the "Profiles" category, and find your Gamertag. Delete the Gamertag Profile.

BEWARE HOWEVER! The console will ask you if it should also delete associated content along with the profile.

DO NOT LET THE CONSOLE DELETE THE ASSOCIATED CONTENT!!

Let the console delete the PROFILE ONLY!!

Now press the Guide button, and choose "Download Profile".

Provide your email address and Password. But be careful: Should you have enabled the Two Factor Authentification (the "security code on your smartphone thingie"), you will need to provide the APP PASSWORD you create on the Security Proof page, not your "normal" Password that you use to sign in on this website.

Hey there Corey! Is your friend getting an error code associated with this message? Also, have him try signing in at https://login.live.com with his Windows Live ID and see if he gets any errors or prompts there. After that, try downloading the profile again. Let us know if that helps!

We have attempted to recover the gamertag on multiple consoles getting the same error each time. He can log on to the site but still cannot recover his profile... any more suggestions?
