A couple days ago, I turned on my xbox to play Red Dead Redemption, as I had done just the other night, and I noticed I had an update to install. The update downloaded, and when my xbox restarted, I immediately got RROD. I do NOT have the dvd hardware for which the firmware update has been causing problems. I never had a problem with this particular unit in the past, and I find it to be more than coincidence that the update that has caused so much trouble actually totaled my xbox. It's enough of a stretch for me to believe it isn't a little too convenient that my three year warranty JUST expired, but I refuse to believe my xbox just coincidentally had hardware failure DURING the update, when it had given no previous signs or symptoms of despair. I understand Microsoft is checking some code over the network to determine whether people are eligible for a new unit because of the firmware disaster, but is there any hope for my particular case? I cannot and refuse to pay $100+ for microsoft to repair my xbox when, in all likelihood, they broke it in the first place.
