"Unrecognized Disc" every game, but dvds work fine!

I recently went on vacation and packed the xbox in a bag in the trunk of the car like always. When I arrive and try to play a game I receive unrecognized disc. I tried several other games and got the same error. It worked fine the night before and I thought i would try a dvd and it worked perfectly just games have a problem.

The Status code i get is 03-57-00.

I have looked everywhere and it seems not many people get this error, a lot of people get the open tray, but mine has not done that once. I no longer am under warranty so If there is any way to fix this like cleaning the lens or something I would like to know. I tried clearing the system cache and everything from troubleshooting but all failed. It seems odd that dvd's work perfectly but games do not.

Its an old arcade I got around 2006, but I did send it in when it got ROD so its a 2008 arcade, Judging by photos online I think it is the older hitachi disc drive.

I saw the article you linked before and tried it all without any luck. I have just been playing downloaded games :(, Does it being able to play cds and dvds really not mean anything. Isn't it the same laser that reads dvds and cds.

Unfortunately it is no longer under warranty, I did shake it a little bit but did not hear anything. Maybe the laser got knocked out of place, I will try cleaning out the dust and see if it helps but I do not think it is the problem.

Troubleshooting steps for 03 57 00.
(It may be the same one provided in the other post, if so apologies).

If none of this helps you will either need to order a repair or replace the console OP.
I can not stress enough not to open the unit, not only is it dangerous but even if you fix it you could face a console ban for opening it. I am not preaching I just wanted to let you know.

Looks like I will try cleaning the dust/laser and see if anything is loose. If it fails just replace it. Its an old console and I would rather buy an xbox then pay for a repair for this old thing. Thanks for trying to help guys.

I think replacing the console will be your only choice OP, as GreyPilgrim points out opening the console could be seen as infringement of your console terms and conditions. I'd suggest looking at it if you replace it first however.

Sadly there's not much you can do, but good luck.
