Problems logging on to Xbox Live due to hard drive fault?

When I switch on my Xbox console I am greeted with a message which says that I require an update.  When I confirm that I want the update the system tells me that I need 190mb free space for the update and that my system does not have enough space.  This is not true as I have a 250gb Xbox 360e console with about 200gb free space.  I am then unable to access Xbox Live.  I can get round this if I switch the console on and off.  The amount of times that I have to switch the console on and off in order to access Xbox Live and my profile varies every time.  I have deleted the system cache and I have also deleted and then downloaded my profile.  None of these has solved the issue.  Does anyone have any ideas?  I am really losing my rag with it.  Thanks in advance.

Fortunately you have many solutions available for this very situation.  I am going to provide you a LINK with all of the options.  They range from clearing the System Cache (which I don't think you need to do with so much space available on your HDD) to either removing and reinstalling the 250GB HDD (which I recommend just to diagnose and ensure your not having hard drive issues) to finally my favorite, which is to simply download the Update to a USB thumb drive. 


No matter what selection you decide to use you will get this resolved.  Now if you complete your update and still have issues connecting to XBL services, follow the advice on the same link that suggests re-downloading your Gamertag Profile.   But I would do that as a last resort.

Could you also do me a favor and please tell me which solution you used and how it worked out for you?  This will be very helpful for the next gamer that has this problem.  Thanks so much and best of luck! - BOM

I have tried all the above solutions and I am still suffering the same problem.  I have managed to apply the update but I am still having problems accessing Xbox Live as I keep getting the message that I require an update and I do not have enough memory to apply it and I have to switch the system on and off several times before I can access my profile and Xbox Live.
