Problem with controller

Hello everyone. I'm french, so excuse my english which may not be perfect.

Friday I just got my Xbox. I came back home and tried to install it, but immediately i get a problem. The screen "freezed" on an image of the controller, and then nothing happend for half an hour.

After several hours of web searching, someone suggest me to plug the controller with a wire directly to the console. But now, 2 days later, i still can't use my controller wireless. It need to be constantly plugged :/

Has someone experienced the same problem than me? What should i do? I don't want to send back my Xbox because I'm not sure I will get a new one soon ^^

Are the batteries in correctly?  It may seem silly but try removing them and putting them back in or try another set and see if that clears it up.

What happens if you put the batteries in and press the home button.  Does it light up at all?  If the polarity of the batteries are correct and new batteries do not fix it you might need to contact support by phone.

make sure the + on the battery matches the + on the metal contact in the battery compartment.

Yeah it does light up. But the console doesn't react at it.

Oh i forget the strangest thing: if the console is off, and i turn on the controller, the console will react, and will turn on...

Can you try these steps to enroll the controller?  You can use it with Kinect, a micro USB if the sync buttons do not work.

I have this same exact problem. The xbox can communicate with the controller (the console will turn the controller on, and the controller will turn the console on wirelessly), but it will not do anything more than that unless plugged in with the micro USB cable. The controller does bind when I use the connect button on the back and point it at the Kinect, but none of the buttons do anything wirelessly.
