Powerline Adapter not Connecting XBox to Network

I just got a Netgear Powerline adaptor model XAVB101 and can't get it to connect my XBox to the network. It will connect through wifi using the same router though. I've tried all the troubleshooting steps and nothing happens. I was wondering if anyone could help me out.

If you can connect wirelessly, then I would forget the powerline adapters.  Those things are far more trouble than they're worth.  The wiring in your house was not built to handle the internet.

The wifi is spotty at best. It drops when it feels like it. Forgot to mention that.

Can't disagree more ChimpZealot, in mine and many others experience powerlines are very good and far superior to wireless. JayJager Powerlines are plug and play so it must be something basic really. can you put a PC on the powerline adapter instead of the Xbox, does that connect ok?

Remember that if you plug them into a power strip that has a surge protector it can block the powerline signal, do all of the LED's on the powerlines indicate a connection?

I have no issues plugging it in to my laptop or desktop. All the LED's are green and it's not plugged in to a power strip. As far as the Xbox, I'm getting a "Can't get IP address" error, but when I go to enter one manually there is already one there.

I'll be honest I've seen some of the bigger named powerline adapters have issues with Xbox, certainly Belkins, maybe Netgears as well then, your better off with other brands, in the UK I recommend VeseNet or Solwise , Devlo are also good.

Ok so the powerlines are fine and it doesn't like the Xbox then I've seen things like this fixed in firmware, are you using the latest? support.netgear.com/.../2648

What about the firmware there's no luck there? If not I would return the powerlines and get a different brand. I assume you've done a factory reset of the network settings on the Xbox as well

I've got the same power line adapter and have had the same problems. Netgear's tech support was awful. Did you end up getting another adapter that worked?
