Power supply issue.

So, I moved to germany from the US.  I bought a 220 to 110 voltage converter that could support like 1500 watts or close to it. I plugged in the converter to the socket then the power supply in seconds I heard a buzz from the power supply. Before I could remove power cord a puff of smoke shot out of my power supply. Did the power supply just fry it self? If it did did was the converter faulty?

By the sounds of it, the amount of current going into the power supply was too much and it basically fried the power supply.. So it appears that you will have to replace the power supply..

I figured it was fried. But is that converter faulty? I don't want to test it out with other appliances?  On a side note why in the world would microsoft not use dual voltage?  Just about every modern electronics uses them.
