Plugging in headset makes controller turn off...

I've had the Xbox One since Thursday night, and just today an issue started where whenever I plug in the headset, after a couple of minutes the controller turns off on its own and won't stay on. If I unplug the headset, the controller works fine. Anyone know what's going on?

Have you tried switching the batteries? I'm wondering if the controller uses a lot more power when the headset is plugged in.

Yeah I'm thinking that may be the issue. My controller hasn't been turned off since Thursday night basically and the batteries are probably just so low it can't handle plugging in the headset.... Will keep you posted.

Interested to know. I wish they made rechargeable controllers standard. I don't understand their decision not to.

Hey, yeah I went and bought new batteries, now the problem is fixed. I guess this means that play and charge kit is a good investment. I've been playing the XB all day since thursday at midnight and the batteries just went caput. Thanks for your help!

Yeah, I figured that may be it since everyone is gaming HARD right now :-P I went ahead and bought my charge -n- play kit at the midnight release. I knew I'd game enough to kill batteries.

I just posted a thread about similar issues... my controller will not connect to the X1 when the headset is plugged in. My battery has about a 75% charge according to the indicator we have now (which seems accurate since it's a brand new play and charge and I've barely used it since the last charge).

There seems to be something really weird going on with the controller and headset, and I really hope it gets fixed soon. I'm not going to shell out $25-30 for an adapter to use my expensive headset if I'm going to have issues like this with that also.

I took my controller back to Gamestop and was able to talk them into exchanging it (funny, the guy behind the counter acted like he didn't think he could do it... until I reserved two games from him. Then he just handed me a controller without any paperwork or anything). I got the controller home and it's still having the same issue; headset works if plugged in after controller is connected, but controller won't connect if headset is plugged in first. Another thing I noticed; if I have the headset unplugged and hold in the pair button on the top of the controller, the guide button light begins to flash more quickly as if it's trying to pair with the console. If the headset is plugged in, holding that button does nothing.

So now I'm thinking it's either a faulty headset, or somehow the controller works on a different frequency if the headset is plugged in, and something in my house is causing interference. I may try exchanging the headset this Sunday to see if that helps, but I'm not sure if I want to reserve any more games to get them to do it.
