I recently contacted customer service because I wanted to pause/suspend my gold membership since my xbox is broken and I didn't want to waste my membership during the time that it will take me to get a new xbox. (I have a 2008 xbox that got the E74 error but its now out of warranty so i'd rather get a new one than pay $100 to get it "fixed", but its going to take me a month or two to get the money).
The outcome? Disappointment. They can't do this simple task, or more like they don't want to do it because they want to keep taking my money for a service I can't use. THIEVES!
