paid for xbox gold and its not working?

ok so ive just paid £40 for xbox live gold 12 months on my account on the computer. But my xbox isnt identifying the fact that i have paid and i can not use my xbox gold. some one help??

When you purchase gold on the website vs. the console, there is a delay before the console will recognize it. You can try either testing your connection or recovering your account to speed up the process.

Actions performed on the XBox.com website may not be immediately recognized by your console.  You can try "Recovering Your Gamertag" on your console and see if it speeds things up.
