Original Xbox Games

I bought an Xbox 360 from gamestop that didn't come with a harddrive, will it play original xbox games if I update it? I've read that only the ones that come with a harddrive will play the original games.

Hi,

Yes you need a hard drive to play original Xbox games and it must be an official Microsoft hard drive not one of the many unofficial hard drives that are sold on places like eBay. Also note that not every original game will work.

When I ordered my 360 from gamestop I also ordered a 120GB harddrive, so that one won't work with the original xbox games? What would I need to do to get this to work? cause I have a lot of xbox games and most of them are on the compatabilty list.

If your console is the slim model then there are only two choices of hard drive, 250GB and 320GB. If your console is an older model then the 120GB drive should be fine so long as its the genuine thing.

You cannot use the older hard drives on the slim Xbox without the risk of suspension for system tampering.

It depends on which console you have, the older hard drives come in the housing that snaps into place on the side of the console and should look like the one in this link

-

-

There will be warranty seals on it, check that they are intact and that it doesn't look like anyone opened it up.

-

The slim hard drives look like this

The slim hard drive should have the words Xbox 360 embossed into the casing.

Which console did you buy?

I bought an older one and my harddrive looks exactly like the one in the first link. Where would the warranty seals be?

They are usually on the underside, the side that fits nearest to the console. If the drive is brand new this shouldn't be an issue.

I took it off my 360 and looked at it ..but I realized that I have no idea what the warranty seal looks like. But I remembered it's a refurbished harddrive. So it would work for my 360 to play xbox games or would I need to order an official harddrive?
