Official MS Transfer cable not recognised by NEW 250Gb Xbox 360 S Console

My 'old' XBOX 360 fell foul of the three red lights (that's my third console to do so) so I bought a new 250GB XBOX 360 S with hard drive, and an official Microsoft Hard Drive Transfer Cable.

Followed the (simple) instructions and to my utter despair the new console isn't recognising or even acknowledging the hard drive. I've looked on forums for advice and downloaded console updates yet it still fails to work.

Please help!

I know what SHOULD happen (as I've done it before), but it isn't! I've been to memory already and it just doesn't see any devices - tried hitting the yellow button for transfer but still nothing. I've tried every USB port on the 360 S, power off power on, unplug everything try again but nothing. I hear the old HD start up but that's all that happens.

The 3 red lights were showing hardware failure but is it possible the problem is in fact the HD?Can I test this?

Boot the old 360 with the HDD disconnected. See what happens.

Try your HDD with another person's console. See what happens.

ok did that - got the same 3 red lights so I guess that means its a hardware fault and not my HDD, so there's hope...

yet to try the other console route, but thanks I'll try it. And see what happens.
