Not able to go on Live because of failed update

So I'm kind of PO right now. I've had this problem for a few weeks. Upon starting my xbox it says I have to update. Okay, fine. After going through 2 download status bars of which the first gets maybe half way and the 2nd doesn't even move at all I get the message: Can't download the update. To test your connection, open System Settings and select Network Settings, Test Xbox Live Connection. If the problem Persists, go to www.xbox.com/support. Well I'm here now after countless times trying all the techniques on google and on these forums. Also Status code is 3CD6-0000-3080-0506-8007-0468. I have owned this original Xbox 360 Elite for probably 3yrs now and have just within the last few months have noticed it slowing down. Not starting up as fast, not loading things on the dashboard, but I deal with that. Not being able to play online is getting a little riled up. Sure hope you can help.

I used a USB and downloaded the update and have to keep it in for it to actually connect to XBL. Also I started a game and it asked to update. I hit okay and I get an error code similar to the one I had before. I try the game update again except this time I choose for it to download to the USB and it worked. So right now I'm taking a guess that my hard drive is bad.

I have always had a wired connection going straight to the modem. I will need to purchase a larger USB flash drive. I'll grab one tomorrow and tell you if it works.

In reference to the support links posted above, here is the solution to your specific error code.

support.xbox.com/.../software-update-errors

The console is looking for a previous version of the system update. Follow these steps:

Find a USB flash drive with at least 90 MB of free space.

Plug the USB flash drive into a USB port on your computer.

Note The USB flash drive must use the FAT32 file system (Windows).

Download the system update for your error code

   http://tinyurl.com/29njb3k

Click Save to save the console update .zip file on your computer.

Unzip the file. If you're using Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7, double-click the .zip file to unzip it.

Copy the contents of the .zip file to the root directory of your USB flash drive.

Unplug the USB flash drive from your computer.

If there is a disc in the console, remove it.

   Turn off the console.

Remove all console storage devices, including any USB flash drives, external hard drives, or the internal hard drive on the Xbox 360 S console. Learn how to remove the hard drive.

Plug the USB flash drive with the update into a USB port on console.

Turn on the console. When the console starts, the software update should automatically start.

Hey InMate7! I've recently seen this specific error code for update issues, so let's see if the steps that have solved others with the issue can help us here! Do you by chance have any devices connected to your console, such as a Kinect? If so, can you try removing those devices and updating your console via USB? You can find directions on how to in the link CloudStrife provided above! :)
