No sound output

I hope someone can help!

I've had my Xbox attached to my LG computer monitor and it works fine.

I've recently bought a new Toshiba TV and when I plus the Xbox in (via HDMI) I get no sound from the console at all. But the odd thing is, if I plug my Playstation into the same HDMI socket then I DO get sound. And when I take the Xbox back upstairs and plus it back into the LG I get sound ok.

Any ideas what is happening - I want to play Skyrim on my big new TV!

Thanks!

Greetings, Porgmeister. Sorry to hear you're having some issues getting sound to work with your new TV. We'll get to the bottom of this. First off, I'd recommend double checking that your sound settings are configured correctly for your setup: support.xbox.com/.../improve-audio-quality. Second, are you using the HDMI cable that came with the Xbox? If not, can you do so and let me know if that makes a difference? Keep me posted. :)

Hi - my sound settings are set to Digital Stereo as I'm just playing straight though my TV.

I have two cables; one from Amazon and one says 'Sky'. I can't find the particular cable that came with the xbox. However both cables work OK when I plug the Xbox into my LG monitor (i.e. I get sound and picture.) It's only when I try and use the Xbox with my new Toshiba TV that I get no sound. (But the Playstation does give me sound using the same cable and the same HDMI input on the TV.)

It's weird!

Sounds like the Toshiba is not liking the audio setting of your console. Try to select another option from the sound setting on the console and see if you then get sound.

Also what model Toshiba TV is it, See if this might be something with the TV and the Xbox working together.

Are there any other HDMI ports that you can try as well; I know on my TV one of the HDMI says PC and the rest are normal HDMI ports. But the TV could be doing something some different encoding on the port.

I could try the 5.1 setting but I didn't use it as I'm only playing through the TV stereo speakers.

The TV has 4 HDMI and the Xbox works with none of them, but the Sky box and Playstation do work.

The is a Toshiba 37BV701.

Is the xbox and the TV both Pal?

If the signal from the console on the HDMI is screwed up over region.

Usually it is video signal not the audio.

Try the other sound option and see if it works, also if you have the Composite cables give them a shot see if it accepts any sound from the console.

I have one more Idea - But I can't find if the optical sound hook up is OUT or IN.

I've attached the Xbox to the TV with the Red, Yellow and White cable - and I have sound! (But the picture is dreadful compared to HDMI!) So it definitely seems to be a problem with the TV not accepting sound via HDMI from the Xbox, although it does accept sound from Sky box and Playstation. Might have to leave a msg for Toshiba too!

Thanks for help so far!

I've found a workaround; The TV has audio inputs, so I've used the Red and Yellow cables to transfer the sound  straight into the TV, and used the HDMI out from the Xbox to give picture. all good!

Still don't know why no sound is going in via HDMI but this will do for now.
