No Audio when playing DVD and using HDMI cable to connect console to TV

Brand new Xbox 360 250GB, came with a Scart connector cable, which seems to work fine. However, when I replaced this with a HDMI cable, there is no audio when playing a DVD. Seems OK when gaming, so only DVD. Help please.

Hey JoshingJungle70, Sorry to hear that you are having some issues with sound when using the HDMI connection and trying to play a DVD.. If you could, please try the below steps to see if this corrects this issue.

  • Turn off the console and hook up the HDMI line from the console to tv.
  • Restart the console using the controller.
  • While the console is starting up hold down both "Y" and "RT" (Right Trigger) until the console restarts.
  • Once the console restarts you can let go of the "Y" and "RT" buttons and this should reset the consoles audio/video settings.
Try testing a DVD after doing the above and let us know if this worked to restore the sound for your console while playing DVD's.

This did not help. Still no Audio on DVDs using HDMI cable. I have tried more than one cable, so I know it's not the cable.

Could you go into the console settings, and see what settings you have put for digital audio? The Xbox has settings for (I think) Digital Stereo, Dolby Digital and Windows Audio Surround. Set it to Stereo or Dolby Digital Surround only. I know of no device that supports the Windows Media Audio thing.

To what audio equipment are you connecting your console? Your TV only, or are you using an AV reciever or audio amplifier to get sound?

Thanks ArminatorX but I've tried every combination of the settings you refer to and no help. I'm only trying to connect direct to a LG TV, so nothing complicated from that point of view.

Hey Josh, So you have tried changing the audio settings under Settings like detailed in this solution troubleshooter.. support.xbox.com/.../improve-audio-quality. You may also need to update your consoles software as well. See here

Yeah tried all that. I'm thinking there's a fault with the console.

Yes I would agree Joshing, If you have tried all the steps provided above, then I would recommend a repair request on that console. This can be done by visiting myservice.xbox.com/.../Welcome.aspx

Hey ADAMSD1783! Sorry to hear that, for help, can I have you create your own thread in this forum? That way we can work with you individually to see if we can get you out of the silent film era. Thanks in advance!
