New Xbox 360 Wireless/Bluetooth headset problems

Have an Halo Reach console, trying to connect the new head set, I follow the instructions to the T, and the headset connects just fine. I can cycle from zone, 1, 2, 3, 4. The problem **** when I connect my controller to play. I turn on my controller wirelessly, then that controller takes over position 1, which my headset was on. Now, my headset disconnects. When I reconnect the headset, I am unable to select position 1 to corrispond with my controller I am using. The headset will only cycle from 2, 3 & 4. What am I missing?

Do you have a wired headset or Chatpad plugged into your controller by chance? If so, can you try removing those?

If the controller thinks it has a headset connected it will have priority over the wireless ones.

Make sure there's nothing connected to the headset jack in the controller or try a different controller and see if the problem goes away.
