New wireless n adapter keeps disconnecting

I have a new xbox wireless n adapter that I received as a gift.  It connects without problems, but after about 5-10 minutes of usage, it disconnects and will not reconnect to xbox live.  After multiple reboots, it would do the same, connect and work fine for a few minutes and disconnect.  It is not an issue with range (unless it is a very sucky adapter, since I have another adapter that I use for my TV right next to it)  I unplugged the adapter after it disconnected and it seems to be much hotter than it should be after a few minutes of use.  I am starting to think it is defective.

I to have had this issue in the past and the fix that I have found is to do a HARD RESET of my router back to factory defaults, I set my security to WPA-Personal and left everything else alone.

my settings are as follows:

Configuration View: Manual

Network Mode: Mixed
Network Name (SSID): <=blocked=>
Channel Width: 20MHz only
Wide Channel:: Auto
Standard Channel: 6-2.437GHZ
SSID Broadcast: Enabled
