New Router MTU Error

So I recently just bought a new router. It's the Tenda Wireless N600 Concurrent Dual-band Gigabit Router. When I first set up the router, it connected fine but told me to enable upnp. After I enabled it, the whole thing went downhill. It wouldn't connect to the internet anymore.. I keep getting MTU errors. I've done my research and I've tried everything. I don't know what to do anymore :(

I would have to look up to see the exact location, but have you increased the MTU to 1364 or higher? Also, is it only your Xbox that is having issues with connecting?

If you continue to have problems with that router then I would suggest this one.

.

Linksys WRT54G2 $50.00.

I haven't tried raising or decreasing anything, do you think that'll help? Everything else connects fine.. both laptops I have at home and my phone.. It's just the xbox that won't connect!

and I dont want to get a new router because I just spent 45.00 on this one

Why would you buy that when you can get a D-Link Dir 655 or 815 for just about the same price. That router is old and cant handle more than one Xbox without NAT issues.

As for the MTU issue, who is your ISP? What is the model number for the router? You can try setting up DHCP Reservation and DMZ for your console.

DHCP Res

Once in the router settings.

Click on DHCP Server on the left .

Click on DHCP List&Binding.

Enter the desired IP Address and MAC Address of your console and click Add, then click Apply.

Then do DMZ.

Click on Virtual Server on the left.

Click on DMZ Settings.

Enter the same IP Address in "DMZ Host IP Address", check the Enable box and click Apply.

Try that.

Low MTU settings can prevent you from connecting to Xbox Live. Take a look at this post and see if it helps you out. If not, please let me know.

Support page doesn't list your router as "compatible". I had a DLink wbr2310 and even though I could sign in, I had NAT problems, random disconnects, slow downloads, etc. I now have a Netgear WNR2000v2. Haven't had the problems like with the DLink.

That's why I did not tell him to get that model number. I said the DIR-655 or 815. And yes your Netgear is ok as well. There have been reported issues with the wireless in the WNR2000 but if you keep the firmware updated you should be fine.

The Dude39,

You should have quoted the person you were directing the comment at.   Because it is misleading that your reply is directed at my suggestion to get the Linksys WRT54G2 $50.00. Which is a VERY good router and highly suggested from most of the members of the xbox.com tech community.

After reading a few times I realize your reply is directed at Paranormal ECL but please next time use the quote button to avoid confusion.  The WRT54G2 is an excellent router.   I have 2 360s, 1 PS3, 1 PC, 1 ipad, and 2 iphones hooked to the WRT54G2 with NO setup and it works perfect.  Its one of the easiest plug and play routers I have seen on the market.  And I have been through several.  This was the easiest and most friendly.  So again I will suggest the WRT54G2 router that I posted above.

.

Paranormal ECL,

Since you just purchased the Tenda Wireless N600 Concurrent Dual-band Gigabit router, you can return it for a full refund as long as it is returned within 30 days. Then you can pick up the router I suggested with no issues. Almost every store has a 30 days no questions asked return policy. If the router is not working they will refund your money.
