Black Friday 2011 release date set for new Xbox 360 dashboard update

By: Alan Ng | October 11, 2011 | Leave a Comment

At the start of October, we informed you about a leaked videowhich gave Xbox 360 owners an exciting preview of a forthcoming update to the Xbox 360 dashboard. Now though, it looks like we have a release date to look forward to, and it could be arriving during this year’s Black Friday 2011 holiday period.

That means that the new update for Microsoft’s console could be landing on Friday, November 25th according to Gigaom who state that this is the date in which Microsoft has apparently ‘targeted’ for release.

Thanks to the new report, we now know that Microsoft will be focusing their update not only on the new Windows Phone 7 style interface, but also with Silverlight features in mind which could provide new functionality and gesture controls for Kinect. Like we mentioned in the leaked video report, Microsoft’s Bing search will also play a key part in the next dashboard update, while fans of watching video content on the Xbox 360 will be pleased to hear that more services will be added to the console as well.

UK consumers should get BBC, LOVEFiLM, Channel 4 and Channel 5 apps as part of the video update, while those of you in the US will be able to enjoy content from the likes of Comcast, Verizon and HBO. Microsoft has yet to say a word on the dashboard update, but after the leaked video and this solid report dishing the dirt on new features, it’s safe to assume that the update is definitely on the way soon.

Are you ready to see a complete UI overhaul on the Xbox 360 dashboard, or do you prefer the existing layout. Once again, if you haven’t seen the leaked ‘Metro’ video showing the new UI, you should definitely check it out as it hasn’t been removed yet. We’ll inform you once we hear any official details from Microsoft regarding the update.

What features would you like to see in the Black Friday update?

What's the bet we'll be left in the dark once again... Like always.

When it comes to Microsoft & Xbox Live, It's sh#t being Australian! We're the lowest of the low. The scum of the f*#king Earth! The most wretched, miserable, servile, pathetic trash that was ever shat into civilization. Some hate Microsoft. I don't. I just think they're wankers. We, on the other hand, are colonized by wankers. When it involves XBL, It's a sh#t country to be in, and ALL the fresh air in the world won't make any f*#king difference!

Trainspotting FTW! lol

Australians will be getting a few things such as ABC I-View and SBS On Demand. Not really sure why you think we would be getting things such as BBC and Channel 4 when they are UK channels?

I got an update last night. Turned my box on to have a quick strap of Forza 4 demo and next thing i know and update was available. Took about 30minutes to download and update and it looked no different. Must've been a getting ready update.

the update took all of 5 minutes for me. Seems every time I get used to a dash they go and change it. How many more button clicks are we going to have to do this time to get to where we want to go?

heres hoping its actually an improvement but if these forums are anything to go by, brace yourselves.

Again, nothing that I can't already watch on a perfectly good computer, with easier navigation... Probably stream it better too.

I really wish we could reject these crap updates. It seem's like every year they become a lot less, in terms of quality & style. Just like the update for this site... wow! What a step back that was. Every heard of the saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".
