new cable modem won't let my xbox connect???

hello,

i just got a new cable modem that has a router built in.

activated the dhcp and upnp.

configuered wireless and my mobile (wp8 lumia 920) connects to the internet without issues.

my pc connects fine to the new router and to the web. i even measured the promised speed of 150mb/s online.

now my problem...

my xbox does not get an ip from it.

HELP!!!!

tried using a different cat 6 cable. nothing.

tried using an old cat5e cable. nothing

tried the old cat5 cable (i used on the old 100mb/s modem). nothing

tried a different port on the modem. nothing.

i even got one of the old xbox 360s i still have around and connected it with the old cat5 cable to this new router and it too does not get an ip.

is there some obscure blockage for gaming consoles i can not find???

ps modem type: TC7200U

just to be clear some more details:

all cables are not cross-over.

all RJ45 ports on the router are for lan access.

there is no mac address filter set up.

there is no internet access filter for lan ips set up...

can't seem to figure this one out 8(

Hey there MacAarburger!

Thanks for all the information you've given us! Now let's see what we can do to get things sorted.

To start things off, here's a handful of questions to help us better understand the situation:

  1. Is your console able to register a wireless signal from your router at all?
  2. What style of console are you using (Original White, Xbox 360 S, Xbox 360 E, etc)?
  3. Does your console just not see the network at all? Or does it see the network but the connection test fails at some point?
  4. Did your console work on the old cable modem/router without issues?
  5. The old cat5e and cat5 cables that you're trying, were they the same cables you used with your old modem/router?
  6. Do you know anyone (a friend or family member perhaps) that has an Xbox 360 console they could try connecting to your new gateway device and see if they can connect?

Let us know and we'll work with you from there! ^_^
