Hi there,

It sounds like the hard drive is the problem for you. This link may help you out: support.xbox.com/.../hard-drive

You will always be able to retrieve your profile so you don't need to worry about losing it.

I am not sure what the problem is. What do you want to happen after you have formatted your console? If your aim was to have everything deleted then personally I would ignore the error message.

Hey there Chef,

Sorry to hear you're getting an error message when you format.

Just a few questions to help us clarify:

  • What is happening with your console that you wanted to format it?
    • Were you having functionality issues with it?
  • Do you have any USB drives or external hard drives attached to your console?

That may help us better understand if there was an issue with the internal hard drive that may be the root of why you're seeing this error.

I am having this problem also. I'll go check the other sites for info on it rather than wait on a response. But it might help others like me who come across this first. I am trying to play Battlefield 4 that i just got from Amazon and it requires 2g of space. It says it requires Xbox hard drive space. So i moved everything off my 4g hard drive but it still says it requires the Xbox hard drive, please choose another device. So i tried to format it, but it gave me the same error message as the original poster.  But yesterday i saved stuff to it. And today i moved stuff off of it. So it must be connected and functioning. Thx
