hello,
there are a couple things you can try, if no of these work I would suggest setting up a repair. I have attached the link to where you can do thins on the end

  1. First check to make sure your disk
are clear and usable. Take the disk out and check the underside. If needed use
a dampen a soft cloth with water, gently wipe the underside of the disc,
starting at the center and moving outward to edges. Then try the disk again

  2. Test other discs. There may be an
issue with that particular disk. If other discs are read properly, you may need
    to replace the disk

  3. Reset the system cache by going to
system Settings the selecting memory then select your attached hard drive. Then
click "Clear System Cache." After the cache is cleared, re-insert the
disc to see if it will play properly.

  4. Disconnect the hard drive and all attached
USB drives and memory cards. Attempt to play the disc. If the disc plays
properly, you may need to replace one or some of the storage devices.

  5. In none of these work you my have to
get your xbox serviced, this can be setup on the following page

hope this
helps

The Buddha Seb is right. If all those solutions don't work then you will need to setup your xbox for a repair.

The only solution is for a repair but sending you Box away isnt the only answer. You could do it yourself but its way riskier but if done correctly your xbox will work fine. I had the open tray problem, the disk error problem and solved it myself on my FAT 360. I works like a XBox should reads on first go and no freeze. What i suggest is search the net for videos and blogs by REAL XBOX REPAIR PEOPLE who know what they doing. I hope this link helps gamedayresources.blogspot.com

Rave,

If after you've tried the above steps posted by The Buddha Seb to no avail, your console will need servicing.  You can check to see if it is still under warranty by following this Xbox Support website link:  support.xbox.com/.../repair-process

I wouldn't personally recommend fixing your console yourself as GadRASTA suggested.  It can be done, but you may break it even worse than the condition it's already in.  Whatever path you choose, good luck!

Never attempt at home repair, it's against the Terms of Usage agreement which is a legally binding contract that you signed.  It also voids your warranty completely and Microsoft will not repair it.  That being said, the laser on your optical drive has failed and the unit needs to be replaced.  If I remember right it's around $80 USD if the console is out of warranty.
