My Xbox keeps disconnecting randomly all the time! really making me mad... HELP!

ok, so i got an xbox for christmas in 2011, and ever since i got it, whenever I sign in, it will disconnect randomly no matter what I'm doing. it's starting to happen more and more when i play FPS games, like Black Ops 2. I have searched the internet for answers, and nothing seems to work i have a Linksys WRT 160N wireless-N router. have tried a wired and wireless connection, and the disconnections are still just as random, even when my router is 4 feet away from my Xbox. I might sound dumb, but i have no idea if a have modem or not, i just need help

Greetings Pastarolin!

Appreciate if you could post up the make and model of your modem. The Linksys WRT 160N is a stand alone router which needs to connect to a Cable/DSL modem which in return connects to the WAN.

Visit Linksys webpage and make sure your router is up-to-date with the latest version of firmware.

Some models of Linksys routers are known to cause issues to NAT traversal with the feature Filter Anonymous Internet Requests turned on. Make sure this feature is turned off.

Ensure that you router has UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) enabled.

Keep us posted.

I'm not sure how to find if i have a modem, but I just turned off the "Filter Anonymous Internet Requests", and enabled my UPnP. I will try to update my firmware (if i can) later because the webpage is down, and i will keep posted as to if your suggestions helped

Hey there!  It's usually a sticker on the bottom of the device, it'll say "Model: blah blah"  Somewhere in tiny text.  It also might be on the back where the plugs go in.

I hope this diagram will help you find the modem

One the back of the Linksys there are five Ethernet sockets. Four of them are numbered 1,2,3,4 and the last one is by itself, often with a yellow socket. That's the cable socket which the modem cable connects to.

Ok, so there is a cable connecting the wire in the yellow socket of the router to a white box. Coming it of the box is a power cord, a CPE socket, and a wire going to an electrical outlet. That is the modem right? Because there is no information on the box about the make or model of it.

The modem should be the same size as your router. It is odd if there is no information regarding the vendor of this modem.

But for now we'll leave your modem at it's place and start focus on the router again.

Access your router and turn off UPnP. Select Applications and Gaming from the top menu. Select DMZ from the sub-menu and configure DMZ. Here's how!

I disabled my UPnP, and modified the DMZ, along with all the others stated above, and I'm still getting disconnected. The only difference is that I can stay connected for maybe a couple minutes longer
