I do not own the S model but is there maybe an option to turn the sounds on or off? Maybe if you changed TVs, the sound might be delayed at start up. But that wouldnt solve the issue of no sounds when ejecting the disc. You should not worry, as long as you can play the game with audio and video working, you are fine.

this is  not  bad if your xbox doesnt make a noise when you open and close the tray thats normal are your  expecting some sort of ding ?  also  turning on  and off the xbox as i know of the regular slims dont really make noises its only the special editions that have special sounds when turning on or off

All Xbox 360 S models, standard models and special editions, will make a sound when using the touch sensitive Power and Eject buttons. If these chimes have stopped working on your console, try unplugging the console's power supply for 24 hours. Let us know if that helps.

I found the best way is to turn on your Xbox than unplug the power cable from the Xbox while it is on. Repeat about 2-3 times and it should work. If not keep trying or call the store you bought it from (assuming you have warranty). I found that if your console loses power (like say when the power goes out) it short circuits or something. Today the power went out while I was playing and as soon as I turned it on no ping. I tried this just now and it worked after 1 try.
