My play & charge cable just melted!

So I was having a game, probably been playing for about 2/3 hours, when it says my controller had disconnected while it was plugged into the play n charge kit (and had been the whole time). So I look and the green light on the controller was flickering. I disconnected the kit and battery, blew on the gold connectors and reconnected it all and it was working fine. Then after about 30 seconds I get a strong burning smell, followed by a sharp burning on my finger. I look down and see the play & charge kit has melted a hole right through just underneath the connecting wire.

All I'm asking, for all those  who thought "tl;dr" is has this happened to anyone before? Is it a common problem? Any ideas for a solution?

First off, is this a Microsoft made product? The controller, battery and charging cable? Are they all made by Microsoft or by a secondary source?

If it isn't made by Microsoft, sadly, there's nothing you can do about it, but try to get a warranty from the place you bought it. If it is a microsoft product, contact support right away.
