My Friend's Xbox is constantly updating.

My friend's Xbox 360 is constantly updating no matter what game it's doing. It could be a disk game or a arcade game, it just says it needs to update. The problem is, every game needed this on the same exact day, and everytime he tries, he keeps getting a message saying he can't connect to the server to do download the update. Yet, at the same time, I can still talk to him on xbox and he can access the market place, so it's not a problem with his connection. What is the problem?

Weirdly enough, Black Ops works but every other game is ether needing a update or plain freezes the xbox.

Hmmm, that's definitely a bit odd, but we'll try to get it sorted. ^_^

The first thing I'd try would be clearing the console update. Give these steps a shot:

-Take any games/DVDs out of your disk tray so there's nothing in there.

-Clear the console update.

  • Go to System
  • Choose Settings
  • Choose Storage
  • Press this button sequence (in order): LB, RB, X, LB, RB, X
  • Your console will restart, that's fine

-Clear your system cache (here's a guide: support.xbox.com/.../clear-system-cache).
-Restart your console.
-Download any system updates that it asks you to download.

After that, try a few games and see if it keeps the continual updates. Let us know how that goes and we'll go from there! ^_^

Despite following the instructions, no, it didn't work. My friend did it and he got the same problems yet again. Is there any other solution?

Does this happen on other profiles on that same console? If they haven't tried yet, have them sign into another profile on the same console and see if the issue persists.
