My 360 won't even connect me to the internet. HELP!

I have had an xbox 360 for almost a year now and I have finally decided to connect it to live. I have registered it online (i think) but when I did I didn't have any type of confirmation screen pop up. Instead, it just said system error please try again. I have tried to connect with another hard drive that has a account that I know works online and I have tried to create a new account, but the Xbox won't even connect to the internet. I have also done the troubleshooting and it just sent me here. I can't reset my modem or router because I'm using a residence hall or dorm internet. What do I do next?!

It may be because the ports have been accidentally blocked. I would contact your network administrator and ask them to unblock them. Details on the ports can be found here: support.xbox.com/.../network-ports-used-xbox-live.aspx
