more than 12 months

is it possible, if i have not used up all my 12 months to add another card

Yup just add the code like normal and the months add on to the end. its automatic.

...and if you go away (vacation, school etc) for a while, you can call microsoft to pause your account so you can save your unused months.

@onyx62is - In reference to the saving up to 3 years. I assume that means if there is an attempt to add cards that would total past three years that the additional time would be lost?

Nothing I plan to actually try, just curious as to what would happen if that were to occur.

You know, honestly I'm not sure about that.  I've never heard of anyone trying to add past 36 months.  Why not give support a call and see what they say.  Although I'm sure you would get a warning about it.

I think your neighbour is pulling your leg.  There is no way to put a hold on xbox live service.  Once it is activated it stays on until its expiry date.
