Monitor won't display xbox image

I have an original xbox 360 that I am connecting to a Phillip's monitor by an A/V cable. This used to work but suddenly stopped so I bought a new cable but still cannot get an image on the monitor. I am able to get sound and can display my laptop screen onto the monitor using an A/V cable but cannot get the xbox image to be displayed in the same way.

I have tried unplugging and replugging cables but to no avail.

Solutions? or broken hardware?

The right trigger is the trigger button, the one you use in most FPS games to shoot your weapon.
