Migrating USA gamertag to South African account

When South Africa became one of the supported xbox live countries, it was possible to migrate USA accounts to SA accounts on xbox.com. I no longer see the option. Is it still possible to do this?

Unfortunately the option to migrate an account to a new Xbox Live region i.e South Africa, has been removed and is not available anymore. It was only for a limited time to allow users to migrate their Out Of Region accounts to the correct region.

Support can not assist with account migrations, its just not available anymore.

If you have an OOR account then it would be best to create an account in the correct region, this way you will have full access to all the features available in your region.

Sorry William, even contacting Customer Support, it will still not be possible to change the regions on the account. If you go from one region to another you will have to create a new account specific to that region.

Well, that sucks. That would mean losing on more than a year's worth of gold sub plus my gamerscore.

Hi William za.

First the bad news, as all the previous answers says, the option to migrate is no longer available.

Now, the good news. Partially good at least. You can dettach your Gamertag from the US Windows LiveID and linked to a new SA WLID.

Pros.

All your games, gamerscore and Microsoft Points remains attached to the Gamertag, you lose nothing.

Cons.

Contact list in Messenger (can build in PC again).

Info: Switch your Gamertag to a different WLID

You can still use the USA account while over in South Africa. As ngocphi said you will need a SA account to link a SA credit card.

But with anything you purchase in SA it will be usable to the USA account, Besides avatar items, from the market place.

Gold membership and Points, on the other hand, you will have to purchase from a USA retailer with the SA CC, and then add the codes.

Also it should be added that the SA Market Place does not have the same items, or release dates for Market Place for the USA account, so it might be a trip in a time warping.

You should create a SA account now, so you can see what I am talking about.

Hi again William,

Benefits... really not sure, you ask for a way to change your account from USA to SA.

The region of your account is set by the region of your Windows Live ID, so if your Windows Live ID is from German, then your account is from German, WLID from UK set your gamertag to UK, etc.

Bazar (marketplace) is different in each region, the only thing you can take for sure is that USA marketplace has the most stuff.

You can first create a local SA silver account and navigate to look the differences, for example in apps I can look that the only things available in SA are twitter and you tube...

About if you can able to pay with a CC, cant see why not, VISA and Mastercardare globally. I dont know if SA is included, but there is many countries where you can now pay with paypal in case you have any problema with a cc.

Good Luck.
