Yes they can! Xbox accepts Visa and Mastercard as well as Paypal accounts as your payment type. As an alternative, you can get a Microsoft Points prepaid card from a local retailer.

So, I can only use prepaid cards or Credit Cards, but not debit cards?

Would a Chase Debit Card be accepted?

While the Xbox Billing system is not set up to specifically accept Debit cards, they can work for purchases. I often use my Visa Debit for purchases on Xbox.

Although if a Debit card does not work then there is not much anyone can do, the officially supported methods of payment are Visa, Mastercard, Amex and Paypal.

If you are haveing trouble with a Debit card you could try linking that to a Paypal account and then the Paypal to the Xbox account. Or just use Pre Paid Codes.

Just an FYI some prepaid cards are blocked from use on XBOX Live due to their nature of not actually being credit/debit cards. XBOX's billing will sometimes not accept the card and decline the transaction on some of these prepaid cards.

As far as Chase Debit Cards, yes they can be used as I have used them in the past. The full amount of the payment is taken out of your checking account.

I have a Visa debit card and I use it to purchase MS points all the time without issue.

I have two Debit cards, one is a Visa and the other a MasterCard. I have used both of them to purchase things through my XBox. The only time I had a problem was once when renewing Live Gold and I think it was because the card company didn't like the auto-renewal thing. So now, I just go to Amazon and buy a pre-paid gold membership (usually on sale) and redeem the code that way. I only need to do it for my membership, any other purchases go through just fine.

To be clear, depit cards are accepted but they don't acept all types. If they dont just buy a pre paid card in a store with the debit card.
