Matchmaking service alert

Hi Can anyone help me, since the 3rd of April my son cannot access Xbox live! every time he tries to sign in it asks for email and password which I duly did. This did not work I reset the password and checked the Internet connecting both are ok. I tested the Xbox live connection - network, Internet, Xbox live all connected.(live status) service, Xbox stores accounts all up. Matchmaking: service alert comes up every time. Is there a problem with the console? Or is there a problem elsewhere with Microsoft? Many thanks
