Major problems with xbox live!!!!! PLEASE HELP

recently my xbox has been rendered practically useless when it comes to online use. When i play games offline my xbox runs perfectly but as soon as i connect to live i cant access my friends list active download download updates, send messages etc etc most online based items are useless. it was running fine until we ran out of data on my modem and i was downloading a dlc. After this my xbox would not do basic functions on live except notify me that i'm online and promotions on the dashboard. now that i have more data it still wont do basic functioning on xbox live. Thanks hope someone can help.

Before i go through some basic steps for you to troubleshoot, could you provide a little more information. Please reaad: START HERE! And post back in full detail (the bits that are in bold).

Remove temporary files and data from the Xbox system cache. Here's how!
Delete your gamer profile (delete profile only) and recover your profile. This deletes the profile but leaves saved games and achievements. Here's how!

Restart your network equipment (modem/router)

  • Turn off your Xbox 360 console and all network hardware (for example, your modem and router).
  • Wait one minute.
  • Turn on your modem and wait for it to come back online (one more minute).
  • Turn on the next piece of hardware (for example, the router), and wait another minute.

i live in Australia and my Xbox will not function properly on live as far as i know all my settings on my modem are correct to run live, my upnp is on and telstra is my service provider. when i do a connection test to live it says everything is fine but i cannot update games access my friends list and most basic Xbox live features. ive cleared system cache and it still did not work. Thanks for responding :)

you can try turning off,by the plug in the wall your modem or router for 30 sec and turn it back on again.i had a problem earlier tonight where i couldent connect with xbox live so i turned my router off for 30 sec and on again.it worked fine now.Hope this helps

Im not using a cellular data cap in australia we have capped download limits on our routers.

Thank you, BurningtehDJ512, another lesson learned.

As to finding the Netgear model, here's a website with pictures of different models: www.pcwintech.com/screenshots-netgear-routersmodems   You can also check the serial number plate which normally has both the model number and the version number.
