Locked Achievements

A few years ago, I carelessly violated Xbox terms of use and linked my hard drive to my computer so I could wrongfully unlock some achievements. I was caught and now there are some games I can't get any achievements for. Specifically Grand Theft Auto 4. Is there anything that can be done?

Unfortunately the answer is no. An Xbox Live player who obtains their gamerscore in an abnormal way will:

  • Find their gamerscore reset to zero.
  • Be unable to regain all previously earned achievements.
  • Be labeled as a “cheater” for the community to view.

Although players who are identified by these criteria will start from a zero gamerscore, they will still be able to gain achievements for future games. In other words, Microsoft gives them another chance to earn future achievements by earning them as other “fair” players do. The original gamerscore correction remains permanent without any way to appeal.

Note Customer Support for Xbox Live cannot undo a gamerscore reset. There is no appeals process.

Absolutely!  You can make a new account and play the game on that account.

And Fred is correct as you can create a new account if you choose to do so, but if you want to continue using your account you will have no way to unlock those achievements that were reset.
