LOCKED - Account suspended due to payment issue and prepaid code won't work

I used a debit card for XBL in 2008, it hasn't reached the expiration date, but it is no longer valid.  My account has been suspended due to an issue with auto-renewal trying to charge that card (I've been using pre-paid cards for the past couple of years).  I had just assumed it would automatically downgrade to Silver

I do have a prepaid card, but I receive an error if I try to put it in on either the website or on the console.  Is there a way to get downgraded to Silver, so I can enter the code?  I'll give customer service a call when they open, but if anyone can help, I'll be thankful.

Hi there.

Unfortunately you cannot use a pre-paid code to pay off an outstanding balance against your account (if there is one that is). The LIVE system may have suspended your account after detecting it was not a valid payment option anymore. I suggest signing into www.billing.microsoft.com and from here you can see if there is an outstanding balance.

Ok. The only way to pay off an oustanding balance is to add a new credit/debit card to your account, however seeing as you have been using pre-paid codes for some time it may be a good idea to contact the support line and explain this to them. They may be able to remove the charge and the subscription, if it renewed and charged your invalid card. It is unlikely that they will but there's always a chance.

Good luck.
