Live works directly to modem, wont detect connection with router

I've never been able to connect my xbox to my router via ethernet cable. It works perfectly when connecting directly to the modem, but switching it to the router I can't even test the connection since the xbox doesnt detect an ethernet connection. I know the port on the router works because I can connect my computer to it. Anyone have any ideas?

Hi,

Please read:- forums.xbox.com/.../9.aspx

And post back your details in full (the bits that are in bold on that post) so that people may help

If you are wireless can you also state whether you are using the white or black external adapter or the Xbox 360S Internal adapter

Hey mate, it sounds like your console isn't detecting a wired connection. Can you please try a different cable, and if that doesn't work, a different port on your router? If you're still not getting any love, then I'm afraid the port will need to be repaired.

Yeah I tried a different cable (cables work with computer), and tried different ports on router (ports work with computer). The xbox port is good because when I connect directly to the modem I am able to connect to xbox live with no issues. Perplexing to me.

That is certainly odd... do you have the latest firmware installed for your router by chance? You can check on the router manufacturer's website.

I checked the firmware which was out of date. I've updated it to the newest version and was very optimistic this would work, but to no avail. I would think a direct wired connection to the modem wouldn't be that hard.

Me either, Shad0wman. OP, this is a bit odd, but does a friend have a router you can borrow temporarily, just to test? It will help us determine if the router in your setup is the issue, and if it should be replaced.

Yeah, also I would try yet another cable one that you've not tried before, if you can pick up one cheap at a local store to try. Very odd.
