live membership problem

we are new to the xbox world. had a 1 month trail and just purchased the year on for my son.  account all says he is a live gold member but he can to join the games with his friends as he had done with the trial membership.  please any help will  be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried to turn off the console, or log out , then log back in to see if that updates the profile.. Try to clear the system cache also. Go to Settings, then System,  then Storage, then click the Y button on the system hard drive and select clear system cache..

Did you just recently purchase the Gold subscription? It can sometimes take a little while for your console to update and allow you to play online. I think I've read that it can take up to 2 hours. The last time I upgraded to Gold, it took about 15 minutes.
